Moving Forward and Not Looking Back!

what jesus didPhilippians 3:13-14 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

I need to be blunt about something. I have become quite tired of hearing people talk about their past. I mean really, you want to continue to live in moments of pain, anger, frustration and unhappiness? Since spending time with some of these people, and trying to encourage them to help brighten up their day, I have realized there are two things that need to take place in order to move forward. One: Stop dwelling on the past. Two: Reach out in front of you, let Jesus place within you a new and positive vision for your future, and then take hold of it.

I realize that we all need to work on things that have taken place in our lives, but to dwell on them only does a few things for you. One; it bogs you down. Two; it usually brings you into a depression. Three; it makes you feel ashamed of past failures, either in life or perhaps something with school or work, and then you allow those moments to linger as memories that stress you out and haunt you.

Now, I am not only talking about people who have something regretful or hurtful in their past. Many people have experienced a past success and camp out there. They are a “has-been” — but are not doing so well now. They stay in the past in order to feel good about themselves.

It doesn’t matter if you are part of the group who have failed in the past or those who have had past success, the problem is this: If you continue to live in the past, you leave no room for your future. Your past is stunting your future growth and the foundation of your past gives no room for hope. It’s time to forget the past and time to take hold of the future. MOVE ON.

Some of you might be sitting there saying, “OK, I am ready to move forward, but which way? What direction should I go?” I’m glad you asked. We all should move forward toward the vision Christ has for each of us. The Lord has instilled a special and sanctified gift in each of you, and by not capturing the vision of Christ you miss out on the Blessings God has placed before you.

Today you have a chance to literally move forward, to allow your blood to flow like never before, to have excitement and joy that you have missed or might not have ever
had in your life. BUT it’s up to you. Are you ready to take hold and begin a new, fresh, and more positive life? if “yes,” then start praying right now.

Jesus, I come before you with a humble heart. I ask you to help me clean out those things in my life that should not be a part of who I am in YOU! Jesus I need you to help show me what past failures or successes I need to leave behind. Lord, please place on my heart the things you have for me, allow me to capture a vision of my future, let it grip my heart like nothing else ever has. And Lord, with each new day, let my passion and zeal for your future continue to grow. Amen.

My friends, I pray you will allow your dreams to become so big that they push away your past thoughts and instill a passion and fire like never before. Become so disciplined in being a servant in Jesus that when you get excited about wanting to do something, that you’re able to do it with out any hesitation, just because its a part of who you are in Christ Jesus. Love you all, and I pray you have an awesome and very amazing weekend.

Exactly what I needed to read and hear today. Even though I've been "saved" for many years now I've ben captured by the past and held there with fear of moving forward. And even still living in my past successes too. What a trap the evil one has set for us. Thanks for the good word.

Thanks for reading Geoff! Yeah - it is a trap we can all fall into from time to time. But praise God we can do something about it when we lean into Christ. He has a wonderful future planned for us. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jer 29:11)
